Carrum Downs group meeting

Next week on Wednesday, any SCQuilters, local or visiting, will meet for a day of fun at Carrum Downs.

"This meeting 7th May, is special," Helen assures us, " as we are having Australia's Biggest Morning Tea/lunch. Together with Vic Quilters this year, we are raising funds to help research into Ovarian Cancer. Everyone is requested to bring a plate to share for morning tea/lunch and there will be a gold coin donation box for us to donate."

Also, we're all going through our patterns for the trading table. Funds from anything sold on the trading table will also go to the cause. So please bring your spare cash along to donate, spend on the trading table and also buy lots of raffle tickets for the lovely raffle prize.

Betty Fawcett: Quilt for Ashton

Betty Fawcett, Quilt for Ashton

Betty has just completed a quilt for her newest grandson.

"The pattern for the blocks comes from "KidsQuilts" in New Zealand. A very easy pattern and lots of fun to make. The corner blocks and the borders are my own design. I needed to take the quilt from cot size to single bed, which is why I added the extra."

"The applique is all stitched on my machine using the excellent blanket stitch it has."

Retreat 2014 - Launceston, Tasmania

16-18 May 2014

The excitement is building...it's not long now until 100 or so fun-seeking quilters descend on the Grand Chancellor Hotel in Launceston, Tasmania for the annual shenanigans which may, or may not, involve stitching, talking, eating, more talking, shopping and a lot of laughter and making and renewing friendships.  Is Launceston prepared?

As in past years, we have received lovely products from our generous supporters, listed below. Please do visit their websites and consider shopping from these businesses - they really help to make our retreats a lot of fun.

Lyn Duhlig: Benny Loves Melly

Lyn sent us photos of this gorgeous quilt last year but somehow they got missed! Our apologies to Lyn!

"This quilt was made to mark (son) Ben's engagement to Melissa in 2011 (though the quilt was only finished last week - one year after their wedding!). Ben and Mel had been a couple for ten years prior to their engagement - since high school, and the name of the quilt comes from doodles on Mel's high school notebooks.

The patchwork design is by Tula Pink from "Sew Red".  The quilting is my random choices, and all done on a domestic machine.

Next up ... a wedding quilt, and they are expecting my first grandchild in one month, so that's also high on the list."
